Program Summary: "Cognitive radio is “an intelligent wireless communication system that is aware of its surrounding environment, and uses methodology of understanding-by-building to learn from the environment and adapt its internal states to corresponding to changes in certain operating parameters (e.g. transmit power, carrier frequency and modulation strategy) in real time, with two primary objectives in mind: (1) Highly reliable communications whenever and wherever needed; (2) Efficient utilization of the radio spectrum (S. Haykin, “Cognitive Radio : Brain empowered Wireless Communications”, IEEE JSAC, Vol 23, pp201-220, February, 2005)CR is a hot topic in recent technical conferences, academia research, and industrial development. This presentation will cover the basic idea on cognitive radio, and its standardization development in IEEE802.22 --- wireless regional system area networks (WRAN).
Biography: Baowei Ji, Ph.D., is staff Engineer at Wireless Solution Lab, Samsung Telecommunications America. He is a voting member of IEEE802.22, also one of the contributors for the initial proposals of the work group. His specialties include cognitive radio, MAC and system-level design for wireless systems.
There is no membership requirement to attend this meeting.
